about the Premoot

The Berlin Premoot has been held annually at the Humboldt University Berlin and surrounding law-firms since many years. Every spring teams from numerous countries meet in Berlin to prepare for the oral arguments of the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot that take place in Hong Kong and Vienna.

As in the later competition two teams compete with each other in each argument. The students thereby play the role of the parties' lawyers, trying to persuade the three-member tribunal of their view on the case. The arbitrators may interrupt these pleadings with questions and give feedback afterwards.

The whole competition is held through the English language. The material issues are to be judged under the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG).

Along with the arguments the Premoot always offers a social programme, giving all participants the opportunity to get in touch with students, academics and practitioners from many different countries.

The Berlin Premoot will be held for the forth time in 2012. We are looking forward to welcoming all participants.
